Abstract
Healthcare Ethics is a growing field in Pakistan. There is increasing acknowledgment of the importance of ethical considerations in healthcare practice and research. A scoping review was
conducted to explore the publication trends in healthcare ethics in Pakistan over the past thirteen years. The purpose of this scoping review was to examine the extent, range, and nature of research and publications in the field of healthcare ethics from Pakistan. This review included publications in both national and international journals by professionals based in Pakistan from year 2000 to 2022. A total of 108 articles were published in national journals and 144
articles published in International Journals were included in the review. Out of the 108 articles, less than one percent of the total published articles in national journals, nearly half were published
in the four PubMed-indexed journals from Pakistan. The publications in international journals focused on clinical and research ethics while ethics awareness and education were
predominant themes in national journals. International journals published empirical studies from Pakistan while national journals mainly published brief reports and short communications.
The review shows that national journals need to adapt to the dynamic field of healthcare and publish normative papers and encourage empirical research while international journals must
be more inclusive and cognizant of perspectives from non-western, developing countries with distinct socio-cultural, religious, and political approaches. Local professionals must focus on
deliberating and contemplating local text that highlights cultural diversity and norms.
